So much has been written about our young soldier, Gilad Shalit, who was kidnapped by the Hamas terrorists almost three years ago. There are two different camps in Israel – those who are willing to comply with the terrorists and release hundreds of sadistic monsters on the streets, and those who oppose it; two dramatic situations requiring some rational thought.
On the one hand and understandably, the large majority of families whether in Israel or the rest of the world are willing to deal with the devil and give up the most outreageous terrorist demands in order to free their sons or daughters. On the other, we have the pragmatic camp that, justifiably, is fully aware that this terrible deal will instill in the terrorists’ mind a much higher motivation to kidnap future soldiers. Past prisoner releases by Israel have shown that 60% of these criminals have resumed their terrorist activities against Israeli citizens. According to a 2006 report by the Almagor Terror Victims Association, major terrorist attacks in recent years accounting for 123 murdered Israelis, were carried out by terrorists released from Israeli prisons. So when this deal is over, Hamas will show to other terrorist gangs that indeed, kidnapping soldiers is a win-win situation since the Israeli security and legal establishment can be fully disregarded. This Hamas victory will also strengthen their standing in the eyes of the Palestinian society and show to them and other terrorists throughout the world that Israel is weak, that operation Cast Lead was useless, and that terror is a great strategy to get winning points and be even legitimized by the world. You can bet that copycats will not falter to use the same strategy throughout the globe. Indeed, the forces of evil will be quick to realize the effectiveness of Hezbollah and Hamas strategy.
This travesty of justice will be carried out very soon, it seems, and you will witness that the released terrorists are those who committed horrific attacks on the bus to Jerusalem, the Dolphinarium in Tel Aviv, the Sbarro restaurant in Jerusalem and the Park Hotel in Netanya. I can’t help shivering when we will see the media images of these disgraced terrorists showing the lewd “V” for victory signs on their way to freedom compounded by their laughing and cheering Israel’s weakness and surrender. Inasmuch as I would love to see Gilad Shalit back to his family safe and sound, this unfortunate exchange with Jihadists will boomerang on us all as clearly expressed in a previous essay: Terrorism = Terrifying future.
