Sorry if i have offended you in anyway. You could be right in many points, however, the replacement theology has always been strongest for many centuries within the Church in the Holy Land, according to St. Augustine's verdict on Jewish destiny (people condemned to wandering, etc.). Although this replacement theology has been invalidated by the Popes, it still lingers within... And I wonder why it took so long for the Vatican to recognize Israel, not until 1994. In any event this recognition by Pope Paul II was rather political rather than spiritual. What this essay was protesting most strongly are the declarations of Pope Benedict with regard to splitting the land with terrorist entities such as Hamas and Fatah, unlike support to the contrary by the Evangelical Christians. I strongly believe that this partition would be suicidal for Israel's security and well-being. In addition, control of Judea and Samaria by an Islamic state would also be detrimental to the Christians still living here, which by the way, their numbers are dwindling by the day due to Islamic harrassment and subserviancy. So, I did not appreciate Benedict's support for a two-state solution.
To sum up, thanks for your thoughts and let's all pray for Peace in Jerusalem and well-being for all faiths.

Hi Yipbop.,

You wrote the following:

"In fact, for the Catholic Church, the Jews are no longer the chosen ones, and the Jewish Scriptures are obsolete and replaced by the New Testament. The Christians are now the New Israel and God’s Jewish messengers and witnesses are to be replaced by the Holy Church. This is called by the Church “Replacement Theology.” Moreover, the main tenet of the replacement theology is that the only role left for the Jews is to convert to Christianity."

Sorry, friend, you are wrong and you are painting an untrue picture of Pope Benedict XVI. It is as clear as daylight that you know very little or nothing of his theology and of the "modern" Catholic Church's view of what you call "replacement theology". Benedict has written long before he became pope that G-d's covenant with Israel has NOT been superseded by what we Christians call the second covenant with the advent of Jesus Christ. Many Christians will differ from Ratzinger/Benedict and the Catholic Church on this one, but Benedict, Pope John Paul II, and the Second Vatican Council for that matter, (1962-65) hold that a covenant is a convenant. G-d does not turn his back on his promises.
Oh yes, and neither are the Jewish scriptures "obsolete" for Christians. Goodness me, what do they teach you in Israeli schools?

To quote you again:

"You would expect that due to the sad and horrific Jew hatred perpetrated by the Catholic Church in the past, that a Pope who represents over one billion adherents would abstain supporting a suicidal Islamic entity to be carved from the entrails of the State of Israel, which they know would mean the gradual slaughter and murder of Jews once again." Are you suggesting that Benedict XVI and 1 billion other Catholics want Islam/Palestinians/ whoever to wipe out the Jewish people in Israel??? You are absolutely wrong on this account too. What a terrible suggestion!

And why on earth do Jews always mention only the Catholic Church as the big villains over the centuries when Germany, whose Nazis brought you the Shoah, has a majority PROTESTANTS and Luther, the hero of the Protestants ( including the Evangelicals) wrote the most awful anti-semitic screed one can think of.

It has become a cliché and a Jewish knee jerk reaction to demonize the Catholics while the Protestants go absolutely scott free and have suddenly morphed into near-angels in Jewish eyes. A little nuance won't be out of place, Yipbop. One sees way too much black/white statements and beliefs on Jewish blogs and in your media.

Peace for you. And we are all supporting Israel and praying for a solution to the problems you have.
